Sunday Concert Series: Jazz Divas & Women Who Rock
Jazz Divas & Women Who Rock, takes you on a fun and inspiring journey through the lives and music of the women who paved the way: from early blues and jazz singers like Bessie Smith and Billie Holiday to sixties songwriters like Joni Mitchell and Carole King. Celia weaves the iconic songs together with an entertaining narrative, exploring how these women were affected by the issues of their times but overcame barriers to bring about change through their enduring music.
With a "storied career of mixing music and monologue into exuberantly theatrical form" (Metronome Magazine), Celia Slattery has entertained audiences from Boston to Bangkok with her original songs, one-woman shows and interpretations of jazz and pop standards. Celia is a Private Voice Instructor at Tufts and Associate Professor of Voice at Berklee College of Music. Featuring guest artists Mark Shilansky, piano; Fernando Huergo, bass; Steve Kirby, guitar; and Austin McMahon, drums.
