From July 1-31, artwork submitted by formerly homeless individuals recovering from serious mental illnesses will be displayed at the City of Fairfax Library. Original art and artists will be on hand at this free reception that gives an opportunity to meet these talented people and celebrate their artistry. The exhibit will conclude with an Artist Reception, providing a chance to meet the artists, celebrate their accomplishments, and learn more about the role of art in mental and emotional healing. Most artwork is for sale, and 100% of the proceeds go directly to the artists. Pathway Homes is a nonprofit providing mental health services—starting with safe, stable housing—to individuals marginalized by poverty and inequity. Art and creativity are an integral part of recovery for Pathway Homes’ residents.
WHEN
Exhibit: Open to the public July 1 - July 31, 2025, 7 days a week during library hours
Artist Reception: July 28, 5:30-7:00pm (free)
WHY
For more than 45 years, Pathway Homes has enabled tens of thousands of people in Northern Virginia with serious mental illnesses and other co-occurring disabilities to get housing and supportive services to help them recover their lives. The event supports the unique talents of Pathway Homes’ residents and enables them to express their journeys to recovery through their unique and personal artwork. The exhibit also honors Karen Free, a Pathway Homes resident and artist who passed away in 2011.
The exhibit and reception are open to the public.
