Sturtz and Salomé Songbird
Sturtz’s music stands out for its distinctive, soothing instrumental and vocal harmonies. NPR’s All Songs Considered described the band as “a reassuring breath of fresh air that pulls me back to simpler times.” The acoustic quartet – Andrew Sturtz , Courtlyn Carpenter , Will Kuepper , and Jim Herlihy – is serene and folksy, with melodic vocals soaring over the lower string instrumentals. Sturtz just released their second studio album, Hyacinth, on September 24th. When they’re not playing music, you’ll probably find them milling flour, farming, laying in a creek, or eating native foliage.
Salomé Songbird is, at a glance, a string-band. But between its members – Ariele Macadangdang, Dr. Joy Adams, and Bryan Dubrow – their background spans fiddle tunes to free jazz; and baroque to bebop to bluegrass. As an acoustic trio, Salomé Songbird channels these influences into original songs inspired by mental health, religious trauma, and cartoons.
