The Scripps Structural Heart Intervention and Imaging course provides a practical, state-of-the-art, live case-based review of structural heart disease interventions and cardiovascular imaging, with a strong emphasis on multidisciplinary collaboration among interventional cardiologists, echocardiologists, electrophysiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, anesthesiologists, and sonographers. Designed for clinicians involved in the care of patients with structural heart disease, the course covers current clinical guidelines for patient selection, pre-procedural evaluation, procedural techniques, imaging integration, and management challenges across therapies such as LAA closure, PFO closure, TAVR, TMVR, mitral and tricuspid transcatheter interventions, and emerging heart failure therapies. Through expert-led presentations and live case demonstrations, participants will review the use of multimodality imaging, including TTE, TEE, ICE, CT, and MRI, to guide assessment, procedural planning, intraprocedural decision-making, complication prevention, and post-procedural evaluation, concluding with outcome assessment and future innovations in the field.
Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
• Develop and coordinate a multidisciplinary structural heart team to optimize evaluation, procedural planning, and management of patients with structural heart disease.
• Identify the equipment, imaging tools, and procedural technologies required for structural heart interventions, including echocardiography, CT, MRI, and intracardiac imaging.
• Apply multimodality imaging to assess cardiac valves, chambers, and septal structures before, during, and after intervention, including use of TTE, TEE, ICE, CT, and MRI.
• Define current indications and patient selection criteria for key structural heart therapies, including LAA closure, PFO closure, TAVR, TMVR, and mitral/tricuspid TEER or valve replacement.
• Use imaging findings to guide procedural strategy and risk prevention, including evaluation for complications such as peri-device leak, device thrombus, LVOT obstruction, and coronary occlusion.
• Implement best practices for procedural, anesthetic, and post-procedural management to improve safety and outcomes in catheter-based structural heart interventions, including emerging therapies for heart failure.
