Both teams have history at this stage, with the Aussies breaking India's hearts at this exact point of the tournament in the 2003 World Cup. India will be desperate to get one over a team that also dealt them heartbreak in the 2015 World Cup semifinal.
India takes on Australia in the ICC World Cup 2023 final in Ahmedabad on November 19, Sunday. The India vs Australia match will begin at 2 pm IST. The Men in Blue defeated the Kiwis while the Aussies beat the Proteas to set up a final date on Sunday. The match also culminates the ICC event, which has been running for a month and a half.
Australia are gunning for their fifth World Cup title while India is for their third. The Men in Yellow last won the 50-over World Cup in 2015 while the Indians in 2011. These two teams are meeting in a 50-over World Cup final for the first time since 2003. In 2011, India won against the Aussies in the quarter-final. The Aussies repaid with interest by beating the MS Dhoni-led team in the 2015 semi-final.
The Indian fans are gunning for an Indian victory and a sweet revenge of the 2003 World Cup final where a Ricky Ponting-led Australian outfit beat the Indian team led by Sourav Ganguly.
This Rohit Sharma-led team is yet to be beaten in this tournament and is riding high on a 10-match inning streak. They did get into a bit of a bother in the semis against the Kiwis but Mohammed Shami’s match-winning spell ensured that India won by 70 runs.
