Living History Event: A Deadly and Decisive New Year's Eve. From 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Living historians present programs featuring cannons and muskets firing and explore some of the key moments that led to one of the most important Union victories of the war.
Location: All Dec. 31 programs will take place in the fields adjacent to the park visitor center.
The Battle of Stones River began on the morning of Dec. 31, 1862, and raged through the day until sunset. Fighting involved nearly all of the 81,000 soldiers as the momentum of fighting swung from an early Confederate advantage to a conclusion that saw U.S. forces poised for victory.
