Come see the brand new Black Box Theater as Van Buren Community Players present their inaugural production, Steel Magnolias, a comedy/drama written by Robert Harling September 13-15 & 20-22.
Director Justine Maldonado, along with an exceptional cast of seven will bring you the funniest play to ever make you cry! This beloved play is inspired by the 1989 film starring Dolly Parton, Julia Roberts, Sally Field, Shirley MacLaine, Olympia Dukakis and Daryl Hannah and centers on the bond among a group of six Southern women at a small-town beauty shop in Louisiana. Director Justine Maldonado says “We are so excited to be a part of the Van Buren Township Community! The cast and crew have been working very hard on Steel Magnolias, and we hope you will love this show as much as we do!”.
The cast of this heartwarming show includes: Carter Salata from Canton as Truvy Jones, Ryann Lacey from VBT as Annelle Dupoy-Desoto, Betty Berryman from Canton as Clairee Belcher, Destinee Strine from Howell as Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie, Lisa Salisbury from Ypsilanti as M’Lynn Eatenton, Barbara Day from VBT as Ouiser Boudreaux and VBT Trustee Don Boynton Jr. from VBT as Radio DJ.
Truvy’s salon is the go-to place for a beauty fix with a hearty side of gossip. Along with her overeager assistant Annelle, Truvy pampers her small-town clients with hairdos, manicures and all kinds of unsolicited advice. Anybody who’s anybody is a regular: There’s the doting M’Lynn and her soon-to-be-married daughter Shelby, the moody curmudgeon Ouiser and the well-to-do widow Clairee. Through witty banter and wisecracks, this hodgepodge group of women form friendships as strong as steel, which they lean on when tragedy strikes.
