Have you ever wanted to learn about working in a science museum? Join expert Cristin Guinan-Wiley as she provides insights into the Fluid collection stored at the Smithsonian’s Museum support center. She is bringing this activity to our gallery based on her work as Fishes Collection Contractor at the National Museum of Natural History. Through this hands-on workshop, you will learn about the different chemicals used for preservation of specimens over the past 150 years, as well as how it is done today. For our hands-on portion, wear clothing that you don’t mind getting dye stains on, as we will be doing some rehousing and cataloging of our own.
The hands-on activity is for participants’ ages 10-15. Family members are welcome to attend, listen, and learn. Please contact the Youth Programs Director at [email protected] with any questions.
