Stargazers: A Love Letter to Trans Youth

Two friends, two artists working together to make the production of their lives, of their hearts. It’s the story of their struggles: one trans/nonbinary writer and one girl caught up in their worlds. Stargazers is a queer circus play and love letter to trans youth. Set in the Y2K era, when gender-affirming care was absent for youth, this show tells the story of that harm and dreams of a better future. Come see circus acts that fly higher than the politics trying to erase trans identities, both then and now. Written by Kim Gryphon and directed by Amaya Alvarado, this show stirs emotions and creates spaces for queer imaginations to soar. Kim Gryphon, writer of Stargazers, said “I wrote Stargazers in response to Trump’s present-day attack on the existence of trans youth. To me, this politics of erasure is nothing new because it is something I also experienced in my life as a queer teenager. This play tells that story because it is my story, and I hope that it can give hope to queer and trans youth today. We want to say: we see you, and we love you.” Stargazers: a love letter to trans youth takes place at the Sundown Assembly on Friday and Saturday, June 6th and 7th. Doors open at 7:30 PM, with the show starting at 9 PM. ASL interpretation is available Saturday only and upon request.
