Spirit Voices-Handpan Showcase
Handpan Concert Live at the MAC
Visitors who attended last year’s “Tattoo Tribe” exhibit and it’s closing concert by Earth Passenger will recall that the concert featured the exhibit curator, Jim LoPresti, on handpan. Now Jim has joined with several of his musician friends from the handpan community to bring a full-fledged Handpan Concert to the MAC’s stage – Spirit Voices.
What we learned last year is that the Handpan is a musical instrument that captivates the listener with a strong hypnotic draw and has a unique vibe to its tone. One special quality of these instruments are their warm, resonant, magical sound with perfectly balanced tuned harmonics. The Handpan is made up of two rounded metal hemispheres which are glued or welded together to form a shape reminiscent of an unidentified flying object.
