South Florida Fashion Academy's 3rd Annual Student Runway Fashion Show

The passionate fashion design and cosmetology students from South Florida Fashion Academy will celebrate the end of the school year and their favorite signature trends, designs and sustainable fashion at the 3rd Annual Portfolio Review & Student Fashion Runway Show in Fort Lauderdale’s budding Art District at the new YMCA South Florida Rooftop venue (1409 NW 6th Street, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311). Inspired by entertainers and globally celebrated movies like “Wicked,” SF/FA fashion design students (grades 6-12) and cosmetology students will present new fashion collections, creative fashion & beauty portfolios, business plans and creative fashion/beauty products that they have developed over the 2024-2025 academic year. SF/FA’s founder & director, Taj McGill, said she is excited to collaborate with the No Limits Foundation to feature special needs youth models in this year’s runway fashion show in an effort to celebrate true inclusivity and diversity. “One of our talented graduating senior fashion design students, Blake S., is debuting a new fashion collection inspired by the American musical fantasy film, Wicked. And to celebrate the true essence of the movie, we will have a beautiful model in a wheelchair from a model casting we hosted with No Limits Foundation, Inc. to represent Elphaba’s sister in the movie, Nessarose Thrope. We have another graduating fashion design student, Khyla B., who has designed her fashion collection inspired by Disney and Pixar’s popular “Inside Out” film highlighting the different human emotions young people experience for the first time as adolescents through vibrant and bold colorful animation. Overall, guests will get to see a fabulous fashion show with an array of diverse and beautiful youth models and fashion looks!” said McGill. Runway Show Models will feature Ms. Arc Broward Pageant Winner wheelchair model (photo above) Local South Florida fashionistas, influencers, media members and beauty enthusiasts are coming together to celebrate the next generation of young local fashion designers and beauty professionals here in South Florida. “Our students have worked relentlessly over the past several months to develop brand new beauty products and fashion collections and they’re incredibly proud to share these creative ideas and products with the world,” McGill continued. Newly added to this annual fashion & beauty event will include a riveting dance performance and added fashion and beauty product launches from Innovative Heights Preparatory School students. “Our parent elementary school, Innovative Heights Preparatory School, which educates students in grades K - 5th grade, will also participate in this year’s fashion runway show and portfolio review. They have innovative beauty products developed and launched by kindergarten students all the way through 5th grade. It’s thrilling to see our students get so creative at such young ages. They will be debuting new beauty products with pop-up shops with select products available for sale,” McGill stated. During this year’s event, SF/FA will spotlight and celebrate one talented fashion design student with the Designer of The Year Award. The award will be presented with a scholarship by the academy’s program director/founder, Taj McGill. “It’s inspiring to work with these young and passionate students every day and help foster their passion into budding new careers. This is why I founded the academy– to provide them with the resources and tools necessary to bring their fashion design and beauty concepts to fruition. This year’s recipient for the DOTY won’t be revealed until the night of the event, but I can say the student is quite the innovative fashion creative,” said McGill. Established in 2019, SF/FA has built an outstanding Taj McGill Fashion Design Program for middle and high school students passionate about learning the craft of the fashion industry. “It’s my belief that creatives shouldn't have to wait until college to start learning fashion design– they can start in sixth grade at our academy,” McGill stated.
