Slippery People Listen: https://slipperypeoplemusic.bandcamp.com/ Website: https://slipperypeoplemusic.com/ About: Slippery People is the creative outlet of San Francisco Bay Area-based artist, Pete Davies. I’m inspired by a wide variety of music and other art forms. What gets me fired up is synthesizing disparate influences to create something that feels fresh and adventurous. My desire is to enjoy both the process of creating, along with the end product itself. I also have the less insulated desire to connect with others in the creation of a more communal experience, whether it be with other musicians or with an audience. eggcorn Listen: https://eggcorn.bandcamp.com/ Website: https://www.instagram.com/justeggcorn/ About: eggcorn, the musical moniker of Lara Hoffman, refers to a word or phrase that sounds like and is mistook for another word or phrase. The name arose from her love of wordplay and the way singing morphs the pronunciation of words leading to multiple lyrical possibilities.
Your Own True Love is eggcorn’s debut album. Self-recorded & self-produced at her home in Napa, many songs began with Lara singing over her belovedly lo-fi Yamaha PSS-9 Portasound with electronic beats and gradually layering syncopated vocals, celestial synths, and fuzz bass, ornamented by samples including clinking bottles, smashed glasses, struck matches, or the Tube announcing arrival to Cockfosters during a trip to London. In contrast to the synth-heavy, folktronica palette, “undertow” features acoustic guitar and the ocean lapping on her favorite beach complemented by her mom’s laughter. At times minimal and confessional and other times immersed in an intergalactic soundscape, thick with pop culture references and puns, YOTL explores the concept of “true love” in a way that feels intimate yet expansive, heart-wrenching yet playful. All songs were mastered by Matthew Barnhart and mixed by Joel Martin except “London” mixed by Maryam Qudus and “emote” mixed by Chase Horseman.
eggcorn is currently experimenting with live arrangements and performing throughout the Bay Area with her band: Kyle Stringer (bass & vocals), Karen Moran (viola & guitar), Ali Gummess (violin & vocals), and Peter Craft (drums).
