Local non-profit Shots 4 Meningitis is hosting its 2nd annual charity golf outing in support of World Meningitis Day. The event will feature:
•Welcome address by John B. Grimes, who survived meningitis while attending Texas Tech University, but lives with permanent blindness and neurologic dysfunction as a result. John lives in Dallas with his family and serves as Executive Director at Shots 4 Meningitis
•Reading of a state proclamation of World Meningitis Day
•Typical golf tournament-style play
•Contests like longest drive, closest to pin and hole in one challenge – with multiple prizes – and exclusive auction items
•Lunch for participants
Come for the cause, stay for the camaraderie – and leave knowing you made a difference.
Why:
•Meningitis is fast, ruthless and deadly. It can strike anyone, anywhere, at any time, taking a healthy life in just 24 hours.
•For those who survive, they face life-long disabilities, such as hearing loss, brain damage, limb loss or epilepsy, often requiring long-term care and support.
•Infants, young children and teens are among the groups at high risk for meningitis.
•The good news is there are vaccines that can help protect against meningitis. Talk to your healthcare provider about vaccination
The funds raised will allow Shots 4 Meningitis to continue its critical work raising awareness of meningitis and supporting survivors and their families whose lives are forever changed from their experience with the disease. For more information, visit: shots4meningitis.org.
Survival isn’t the end of the journey – it’s just the beginning.
