Sewing 101: Two-Day Beginner Workshop
Curious about sewing but not sure where to begin? This workshop is a hands-on, two-day introductory class designed for absolute beginners or those looking to refresh their basic skills in a supportive, small-group setting.
Day 1 focuses on building a strong foundation. Students will learn sewing safety, become familiar with sewing machine parts, and practice essential skills needed to get started. Instruction will cover power supply and on/off controls, proper use of scissors, pins, and needles, threading the machine, and practicing basic stitches. Machine components discussed include the bobbin, spool pin, thread cutter, reverse stitch button, stitch length dial, pattern selector dial, presser foot and presser foot lift, needle clamp screw, and hand wheel. By the end of Day 1, students will begin their sewing project.
Day 2 is dedicated to completing a finished piece. Students will choose between two beginner-friendly projects: a drawstring bag or a fabric basket, applying the skills learned on Day 1 while gaining confidence and independence at the machine.
*Please note that the workshop dates and hours are: Saturday, May 16th (10am-4pm) and Sunday, May 17th (12pm-4pm).
Notes
For lunch on Saturday, May 16th, we will place a group order from a local restaurant and pick up the meals for everyone—students can reimburse us at the front desk. You're also welcome to bring your own bagged lunch if you prefer. We will have drinks and light refreshments available for students. Please plan to bring a bagged lunch on Sunday, May 17th.
