Whether you love ‘em or hate ‘em, roundabouts are seeing increased usage in the U.S. and globally. Connecticut roads incorporate 30+ roundabouts now, with more in the works. Studies indicate they improve safety and traffic flow by reducing conflict points and vehicle delays compared to traffic signals. Do they improve air quality as well? University of Hartford Professor Clara Fang is studying this premise. Her project explores how roundabouts affect driver behavior and vehicle emissions. Hear how her team uses drones and microsimulation modeling to collect traffic pattern data, vehicle speeds, and driver-decision info. Friday, Oct. 24, 10:30–noon. Sponsored by President’s College Lifelong Learning at the University of Hartford. Visit Hartford.edu/pc to check this out as well as lots of other fall courses & lectures.
