Built by and for the community, Old City Hall, Monumental Church, the Moore Street School, and the Byrd Park Pump House are some of Richmond’s most notable civic buildings. Join us as we discuss the history and significance of these sites, as well as past and current advocacy efforts to save them.

Part of Quinn Evans’ Heritage Team, Katie Irwin was the practice area lead on the most recent restoration of Old City Hall. Quinn Evans is the AIA’s Architecture Firm Award 2024 recipient.
Jerome Legions | President, Moore Street School Foundation, Carver Neighborhood Association
A resident of the Carver Community and president of the Carver Area Civic Improvement League president, Mr. Jerome Legions is a citizen activist focused on saving and re-engaging historic Moore Street School for the community.
Cassi Patterson | Transportation Planner III at VHB, Board Member, Friends of the Pump House
Cassi Patterson is a transportation planner by day and preservationist by night. She is a Board member and past President of Friends of the Pump House, a volunteer-led non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, protecting and restoring the historic Byrd Park Pump House and has helped build partnerships, raise funds, and oversee structural improvements.
Sarah Whiting | Director of Operations & Capital Projects, The Valentine
Speaking on Monumental Church and the National Theater, Sarah Whiting gives insight on what it is like to be raised in preservation with big saves like The National Theater and Monumental Church as part of a family’s legacy, as well serving as the Project Manager for the restoration of Monumental Church in the early 2000s.
Free parking is available any time after 5 p.m. in the parking lot behind the Virginia Department of Transportation (1401 E. Broad Street). If driving East on Broad, take a right on Old 14th Street to access the parking lot. If approaching via I-95 (exit 74C), take a slight right onto East Broad Street, then immediately move into the far-left lane, so you can turn left onto Old 14th Street at the first light.
