Saturday Storytime with Elaine May & Canine Companions
They’ll lead the storytime with the picture book Andy: A Dog's Tale and a kid-friendly Q&A about service dogs—how they’re trained, the important roles they play, and the life-changing support they provide every day. BONUS! Real service dogs will be brought to storytime!
Adapted from the award-winning short film of the same name, Andy: A Dog's Tale is a heartwarming book following the journey of a determined puppy who overcomes adversity to discover his purpose as a service dog. The short film and book were inspired by Canine Companions.
About Elaine May
Elaine is a dedicated Columbus community volunteer whom many local families may recognize as the puppy raiser for NBC4's Puppy on a Mission, Boone. Through her work with Boone, Elaine has made occasional on-air appearances with NBC4. Elaine was also named a 2025 Everyday Kindness Hero by Columbus Monthly, The Columbus Dispatch, and Columbus CEO in recognition of her outstanding volunteer work with Canine Companions as both a puppy raiser and therapy dog handler. She was honored alongside several notable community leaders and featured in local publications for her commitment to giving back.
