Join us for Salon HALA, an enchanting evening produced by the Heritage Activists & Liberation Artists (HALA) collective. Inspired by the rich tradition of French art salons, this event promises a vibrant blend of artistic expression, music, and community engagement. Delight in delicious Palestinian fusion food while DJ M4CRO sets the perfect ambiance with eclectic beats.
Event Highlights
1. Open Discussion: “People’s True Power in Voting”
Speakers:
• Jeremy Mack: Advocate for transformative public policy, specializing in Restorative Justice and ethical urban development. Jeremy’s impactful work includes policy research, community organizing, and contributions to the Better Neighborhoods, Same Neighbors Initiative in East Oakland.
• Keane Chukwuneta: Senior Campaign Coordinator at Jobs with Justice SF, Keane is a seasoned political strategist dedicated to labor rights and political advocacy. His expertise has been pivotal in shaping progressive campaigns and policies across California.
• Tobie (Pup Zembla): Activist and writer, co-organizer of the Pups for Palestine protest group, and anarchist organizer in SOMA. Tobie writes for Zine Dogs, hosted the Queertopia salon series, and is currently working on a piece about Technofascism in SF.
• Toshio Meronek: Host of the podcast Sad Francisco, with writings featured in Al Jazeera, The Nation, them, Truthout, and Vice News. Toshio’s collaboration with Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, “Miss Major Speaks: Conversations with a Black Trans Revolutionary,” won the 2024 Lambda Literary Award in Transgender Nonfiction and the Stonewall Book Award.
2. Special Performances:
• Cin: Afro-Mexicana queer musician, poet, and activist from Oakland, CA. Her music blends influences from hip-hop, R&B, and alternative rock, addressing themes like mental health, intergenerational trauma, and resistance against oppression.
• Bianca (BB) Brown: A talented musician and graduate of Oakland School for the Arts, BB combines her vocal training with skills in piano, beatboxing, and production. Her performances include venues like Oakland City Hall and The Fox Theater.
• Monica: Dancer and percussionist specializing in cultural dances of the Mediterranean region. With a focus on Egyptian raqs baladi and Southern Italian folk dances, Monica brings decades of expertise to the stage.
