Rio Vista National Historic Landmark Celebration
The City of Socorro, in collaboration with the National Park Service and Latinos in Heritage Conservation, will celebrate the official National Historic Landmark designation of the former Rio Vista Bracero Reception Center in Socorro, Texas. This activity-filled public celebration marks a pivotal moment, years in the making, in acknowledging the site's deep-rooted connection to the nation’s agricultural, labor, and migrant history, honoring the experiences and contributions of those who participated in the Bracero Program.
Event Highlight: The special event will feature the unveiling of the first-ever landmark plaque in the U.S. with a federal designation in both English and Spanish. There will also be food, dancing, performances, live music, art making, and more!
