To bring Women’s History Month to a celebratory close, Westchester County Historical Society (WCHS) offers a virtual presentation, “Remembering Remarkable Women of Westchester,” Saturday, March 25, at 3 p.m. Westchester County had been the home to many prominent individuals including extraordinary women who were born and raised here and women who settled in the county because of its proximity to Manhattan, natural beauty, fine schools, tightknit neighborhoods and rural charm.
The 60-minute digital slide presentation features a sampling of the businesswomen, artists, scientists, activists, athletes, authors and others whose work and lives left a significant legacy. This includes a number of well-known actresses, authors and trendsetters, as well as women of outstanding achievements who are not necessarily household names. “Wizard of Oz” stars Judy Garland (Scarsdale) and Billie Burke (Hastings-on-Hudson), vocalist Nina Simone (Mount Vernon), suffragist Carrie Chapman Catt (New Castle and New Rochelle) and cryptanalyst Ann Caracristi (Bronxville) are a few of the featured women.
The free Zoom presentation by WCHS Co-Director Barbara Davis is open to the public. To register, visit the WCHS website, www.westchesterhistory.com, or go to http://bit.ly/3lhxBsX.
