Regional Climate Change Impacts


Joseph Callahan, TRWA’s president and the event coordinator says, “We want the regional perspective on what kinds of impacts we are expecting for the coast and our watershed, what we can do to prepare for those impacts and how we can mitigate them.” Our audience will hear what’s happening now from each panelist’s perspective, what’s expected to happen down the road, and what steps we can each take in everyday life to manage risks. They will speak about interrelated topics such fresh and saltwater issues, climate health effects, agriculture, advocacy, environmental justice, economic consequences, biodiversity, climate resilience and sustainable practices. A question-and-answer period will follow. Our panelists are: Amber Davis- Southeastern Regional Planning and Economic Development District, Senior Comprehensive Planner Amber joined SRPEDD in 2022 as a Senior Planner. Her diverse background includes urban planning, environmental policy, public health, and climate change and adaptation. https://srpedd.org/ Monica Driggers, Massachusetts Rivers Alliance, Deputy Director Monica works with staff, board and external partners to sustain existing programs, expand into new program areas, strengthen Mass Rivers' connections to member organizations, and drive policy change. Her work includes advocating for water equity, reforming water allocation policies, and covering wetlands issues Massachusetts Rivers Alliance - River Protection (massriversalliance.org) Marea Gabriel- The Nature Conservancy, Massachusetts Chapter, Freshwater Management Marea works with The Nature Conservancy’s Rivers & Lands Program to conserve resilient rivers and lands through strategies that protect and restore ecological integrity, reduce climate risks, and promote human wellbeing. Emma Gildesgame, The Nature Conservancy, Massachusetts Chapter, Climate Adaptation Scientist Emma is a planning professional with academic and work experience in community engagement, conservation, restoration, and water quality work. She has extensive experience in environmental program design and planning and field-based conservation and community engagement Management, Water, Wetlands and Marine Resources. https://www.nature.org/en-us/about-us/where-we-work/united-states/massachusetts/ Julia Knisel, Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management, Coastal Shoreline and Floodplain Manager Julia leads the StormSmart Coasts Program for the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management to help communities address coastal erosion and flooding while enhancing beach systems.
