Set in Manhattan in the year 1940, The Ballad of Madelyne & Therese is an album and song-cycle about two women engaged in a forbidden love affair.
On stage, Garlin performs songs from the album while voicing the various characters' conversations and interior monologues.
Backed by an acoustic ensemble and harmony singers, she leads the audience through a story arc that blends narrative fatalism with musical improvisation.
