Rachel Garlin Live in Concert with Lila Blue

Singer, songwriter, playwright, and member of the LGBTQIA+ community, Rachel Garlin, will perform selections from her celebrated discography highlighting the songwriter’s unique, vivid storytelling to Sweetwater Music Hall on July 21st. Additionally, Garlin will play selections from her musical stage-play in development, The Ballad of Madelyne & Therese – a story of forbidden love between two women in 1940s New York City. The Berkeley native and San Francisco-dwelling songwriter, Garlin, invited one time student, current friend, and exceptional songwriter, Lila Blue to support the show. Lila, (they/she) is a twenty-four-year-old non-binary and queer folk musician, singer-songwriter, playwright and performer based out of Brooklyn. Garlin is proud of Lila’s evolution as an artist and pleased that the two can come back to their old stomping grounds in the Bay Area for one night of stellar storytelling, remarkable songwriting and an evening of joy, community, and celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community in California and beyond. Garlin, for all her other lineage (she's a Harvard grad, an American Ninja Warrior, a wife, and a mom of three) holds tightly to her identity as an alum of Berkeley High and the state championship winning girls’ basketball team of the 1990s. While that team (with longtime coach Gene Nakamura) made it far, Garlin's current "team" of collaborators is similarly dynamic, including producer Julie Wolf and bandmates James DePrato (Chuck Prophet Band), Daniel Fabricant, and Brian Fishler. A Rachel Garlin concert is not complete without one completely improvised song that happens on stage, often with a volunteer from the audience. All to say, the night promises to be one of a kind, and kind of unconventional, and at its heart, just plain kind. Rachel Garlin's performances and recordings have garnered recent praise from the San Francisco Chronicle and Americana Highways while her albums can be heard on tastemaker radio shows like Folk Alley, Folk Music Notebook and Sirius XM's The Village. She has performed internationally and shared her songs on the stages of the Newport Folk Festival, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and SF Pride. Don’t Miss Rachel Garlin & Lila Blue This July!
