Pysanky, a revered art form dating back to the Neolithic, involves creating intricate designs on eggs using beeswax and dyes in a layered batik method. We will explore the cultural and historical roots of the art, highlighting its ancient origins, traditions around the sharing and creation of the eggs, symbolic languages, and why the egg has always been a symbol of hope and peace.
About the Artist: Jenny has been teaching pysanky for over a decade in a wide range of esteemed settings across New England and in numerous periodicals, including the Wall Street Journal. Her workshops and demonstrations have been hosted by art centers, museums, libraries, and botanical venues, including the Brattleboro Museum & Art Center (VT), Grounds for Sculpture (NJ), Newport Art Museum (RI), Chapel of Sacred Mirrors (NY), the Center for Contemporary Art in Hudson Valley (NY), Omega Institute (NY), Shelburne
Craft School (VT), and White River Craft Center (VT).
