Public Relations Council of Greater Atlantic City to Honor Henrietta Shelton


Shelton is co-founder of the non-profit Chicken Bone Beach (CBB) Historical Foundation, Inc. Members of the public, in particular, jazz enthusiasts are invited to attend from 11:45 a.m. - 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 26, at Cardinal Restaurant, 201 S. New York Ave., Atlantic City. Shelton, CBB’s president and CEO, who has won numerous awards for her work preserving and promoting African American history and culture in Atlantic City, will be recognized at the meeting. About Our Speaker: An Atlantic City native, Henrietta Shelton co-founded the Chicken Bone Beach Historical Foundation, Inc., to honor and preserve Missouri Ave. Beach, the only beach in Atlantic City where African American citizens could gather in her youth. The Foundation also celebrates jazz music and its history by offering free outdoor concerts and music education to young people. Ms. Shelton retired in 2017 from the FAA Technical Center in Pomona where she worked for 41 years. She is the recipient of many awards, including the American Conference on Diversity’s 2011 Humanitarian of the Year Award, and the 2020 Arts and Entertainment award from the Atlantic County Women’s Hall of Fame and, will be honored at the NAACP’s annual gala in April at the Hard Rock Casino Atlantic City. Chicken Bone Beach is featured in the Cape May MAC’s current photography exhibit on segregated beaches in Atlantic and Cape May counties.
