Every year around November 30, communities worldwide mark Remembrance Day for Lost Species—a time to reflect on the animals and plants we have lost, and to commit ourselves to protecting the life that remains. In Madison we are gathering UW and community experts to discuss the causes of extinction including environmental toxins, climate change, and deforestation.
According to the World Wildlife Fund’s Living Planet Report, vertebrate populations have declined by more than 50% since 1970.
The extinction crisis is not only about animals and plants—it’s about the future of Earth’s ecosystems, and our own survival.
