PSO OPENING NIGHT: BALLET AND BOLÉRO


For thousands of years, nature’s beauty has inspired music making around the world. In this special one-hour performance, the PSO brings the natural world into the concert hall with works by Beethoven, Florence Price, John Williams, and more! Step out of city life and into the idyllic countryside when you join us for “Songs of the Earth.”Concert dedicated to the memory of Dr. Christopher Parr Robinson Opening Co-Chairs Bobby Baggett and Arlene Johnson Héctor Guzmán, Conductor Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Adam W. McKinney, Artistic Director Elisabeth Adkins, violin Sat, Sept 28, 2024 | 8 PM ROBINSON FINE ARTS CENTER PROGRAM/REPERTOIRE The season opening concert is sponsored by Mrs. Margot Perot Tlaloc is generously underwritten by Tammy and Charles Miller Sponsored in part by What better way to open the 2024–2025 Season than with a world premiere by Robert Xavier Rodríguez who Texas Monthly has called “one of the major American composers of his generation.” Joining Maestro Guzmán and the PSO for this very special concert is the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, one of the most exciting ballet companies in the country, performing a beautiful pas de deux from Swan Lake as well as Ravel’s sensuous Boléro, with choreography by Susan Jaffe. Also appearing will be PSO Concertmaster Elisabeth Adkins performing Concerto for Violin and Orchestra by S. Barber. A VIP ticket will include a post-concert meet and greet with assistant conductor Shira Samuels-Shragg. Shira will share a behind-the-scenes look at our summer orchestra camp and provide an in-depth musical examination of the works presented on the concert.
