Process Bared: Oil Paintings by Denise Siegel

ARTIST STATEMENT “Process Bared”, an exhibition of oil paintings by Chicago area artist Denise Siegel will be held Friday, July 12, 6pm-10pm, and Saturday, July 13,1pm-5pm at VibrantCast Gallery, 4313 N. Lincoln Av., Chicago. A lifelong artist, Siegel has studied and worked in the mediums of drawing, figurative sculpture, multiple printmaking techniques, and oil painting. Her intention: to celebrate each medium by illuminating the artistic process. “Your experience with my artwork should be evocative!” Siegel explains. “My goal is to connect the viewer directly to the process of creating art.” In her paintings, layers of paint and brushstrokes are revealed rather than smoothed or covered. Even if a canvas is recycled as a new painting, texture, color, shapes or lines from the previous painting may be kept. Look for Siegel’s fingerprints in the direct draw nudes; this is where she held the paper while tracing her reversed drawing onto rolled ink. Subject matter is frequently abstracted, not only to showcase the process but to illuminate the feeling and essence of the subject matter that Siegel intends to convey. Throughout Chicago and the North Shore, Siegel has taught figurative sculpture to adults, worked as an assistant in a prominent sculpture studio, and created her own successful bronze tile business, Denise Siegel Bronze.
