Join us in celebrating art, resilience, and connection
Step into a powerful space where creativity transcends walls. The Prison Creative Arts Project (PCAP) invites you to experience an exhibition that brings those impacted by the justice system together with the University of Michigan Community for artistic collaboration, mutual learning, and growth.
This artwork is from PCAP’s extensive archive of 2- and 3- dimensional art created by incarcerated artists.
The archive contains the full breadth of subject matter, material use, and skill level displayed by artists incarcerated in the state of Michigan. Every fall, teams of U-M students, faculty, and curators travel to 25 Michigan Department of Corrections facilities across the state to choose art for the Annual Exhibition of Artists in Michigan Prisons.
Artists may not have the space or permission to store finished artwork, and many graciously choose to donate their works to PCAP.
The donated pieces may be utilized for student learning in PCAP classes, auctioned at the annual PCAP fundraiser, or displayed in smaller exhibitions – like this one.
The exhibit is open from Sept. 8 to Oct. 17, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The opening reception will be held on September 8, 2025, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. All are welcome!
