Plays of Wilton Launches 2026 with an Immersive, All-Ages Art Experience:
MUSEUM by Tina Howe
Opening January 15 at Arts United | Three Weeks Only
Wilton Manors, FL — Plays of Wilton is thrilled to kick off 2026 with its first production of the year, the inventive and joyful comedy Museum by acclaimed playwright Tina Howe. Opening January 15, this site-specific, interactive theatrical experience invites audiences of all ages to step inside an art gallery where creativity, curiosity, and comedy collide. Bring the kids, bring your parents, bring your co-workers—this is a fun, accessible night out for everyone.
Generously sponsored by David Rappel, Broward County Cultural Division and Our Fund Foundation, Museum takes place on the final day of a contemporary art exhibition at a major modern art museum. Over the course of approximately 90 minutes, a rotating ensemble of nearly 40 characters—from enthusiastic art lovers and skeptical critics to confused tourists, quirky museum guards, and museum staff—wander through the gallery space, react to the works on display, and interact with one another. Through its fragmented structure and rapid shifts in tone and character, the play becomes a whimsical, insightful comedy that explores how people perceive art, life, and each other.
Often described as one of Tina Howe’s most beloved works, Museum has been praised by critics as “an enchanting show...full of wit and humor” (The New Yorker) and “a comedy of absurdities with a serious and human message” (The New York Times). The Village Voice called the play “moving and beautiful...a passionate and thoroughly personal reflection of the world around us.”
Plays of Wilton’s production deepens the play’s themes by staging Museum as a site-specific experience inside an actual art gallery, Arts United, located just across the street from The Foundry. The production features a large ensemble of local talent, with casting announcements coming soon.
Adding to the immersive nature of the event, the “art” on display during each performance will be created from scratch by the audience themselves, beginning one hour before the 90-minute, one-act play begins. During this pre-show hour, refreshments will be served, inviting audiences to mingle, create, and become active participants in the artistic process. After the performance, a local visual artist will be introduced to briefly share and discuss one of their artworks.
About Arts United
Founded in 1999, Arts United began as a platform to uplift LGBTQ artists and has evolved into a vibrant organization that celebrates all voices. Through bold programs and powerful partnerships, Arts United promotes inclusivity, uplifts diverse talent, and fuels creative expression—supporting artists while bringing people together through the arts. Its vision is a world where creativity breaks barriers, diversity is the norm, and every artist feels seen, supported, and free to create, making it a natural and inspiring home for Museum.
Plays of Wilton Artistic Director Ronnie Larsen shared his excitement about the collaboration:
“Museum is a love letter to creativity, curiosity, and community, so partnering with Arts United felt absolutely right. We are incredibly grateful to Executive Director Dennis Dean and the Arts United Board of Directors for welcoming us into their space and embracing this collaboration. This production is about artists supporting artists, breaking down barriers, and inviting the community to actively participate in the creative process—and Arts United embodies all of that.”
More than just a play, Museum is a celebration of art, imagination, and community—and a perfect way to get 2026 off to a very fun and creative start.
