On SWARM
Every autumn, a miracle happens. A monarch butterfly born in Canada flies more than 3,000 miles across North America. It does so over land it has never seen, in the reverse direction of the streams of humans traveling steadily north. It’s destination: the rainforest of Mexico. It is a journey filled with peril. Not every monarch will make it, and those that do will never return. No butterfly among them has ever made the journey before, and none will again. In the hands of artist, writer, and filmmaker Leopoldo Goût, the tale of the monarch butterfly’s migration from North America to the Mexican town of Contepec gets an immersive treatment, allowing the viewer to experience SWARM from inside of it.Each monarch butterfly was hand-painted by Goût, then brought into 3D space in collaboration with multimedia artist Matt Bruinooge.
SWARM is an epic struggle for survival, as well as a story of astonishing beauty and marvel told through an immersive video installation. A groundbreaking work of visual poetry, SWARM is a drama about a great migration that explores the value of community, environmentalism, and–ultimately—transformation. The first in a series of installations, SWARM will expand to include holographic projections, volumetric television, music, scent and other visual sensorial technologies, enveloping room-sized installations blurring the lines between vision and experience; the real and the virtual.

ON POVOS GALLERY
Chicago artist Lucca Colombelli founded Povos in 2020 as an online gallery. After a run of successful pop-up projects, Povos moved to its first physical space on Milwaukee Avenue in late 2021, and later to a larger gallery in Chicago's West Town Gallery district. In 2024, Povos partnered with artist and gallerist Winston Guo, founder of W. Gallery, leading to the opening of Povos Downtown, an additional exhibition space in Chicago's South Loop. This expansion allows Povos to open 10 exhibitions per year. Since its founding, Povos has produced 36 exhibitions featuring more than 160 unique artists. The gallery was pleased to make its international fair debut at EXPO/Frieze Chicago 2024, showcasing works by represented artists William Schaeuble and Ashkon Haidari.
Povos amplifies the voices of emerging and early-career artists, focusing on unique, surreal, and politically engaged narratives. The gallery now aims to build its international platform, supporting artists committed to exploring deep and timeless truths.
