Piano Jazz Series: Gary Versace
Experience the virtuosity of jazz pianist Gary Versace and his trio on Tuesday, January 23 at Zinc. Joined by bassist Ugonna Okegwo and drummer Rudy Royston, Gary’s dynamic playing and original compositions captivate audiences.
Based in New York City since June 2002, Gary Versace, a prolific jazz organist, pianist, and accordionist, has become a prominent and versatile figure in the music scene. He’s been featured in bands led by renowned musicians such as John Scofield, Maria Schneider, and John Abercrombie. Recognized as a “rising star” on the Hammond organ, Versace has been a soloist on critically acclaimed recordings, including Maria Schneider’s Grammy-winning albums. Voted a “rising star” in Downbeat critics polls, Versace has also led projects for labels like Criss Cross and SteepleChase and contributed as a sideman on over 50 recordings for various labels. Holding a master’s degree from the Eastman School of Music, Versace spent eight years as a tenured associate professor at the University of Oregon and remains active as a clinician and guest soloist globally.
