PIANO ILLUSIONS: Magic and Music
A magician is coming to town. Not an ordinary magician. A pianist who creates musical illusians. Pianist and magician Igor Lipinski reimagines the piano recital in Piano Illusions a mystifying and hilarious evening of music and magic at 7 p.m. Friday November 10, at the Berna Facio Center, 3315 Louisiana Blvd. NE, Albuquerque.
Presented by the Professional Music Teachers of New Mexico, as a highlight of their annual state conference, Piano Illusions is open to the public. Admission at the door is $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and students.
Lipinski's program features music-related sleight-of-hand tricks and memory feats and also delves into the illusions created in music itself.
Dr. Lipinski, now a member of the piano faculty at the University of Oklahoma and a performing magician since his boyhood in Poland, started working on Piano Illusions as an undergraduate at the Eastman School of Music. The show later won the WQXR Classical Comedy Contest at Caroline’s on Broadway.
Since then, Lipinski has presented versions of Piano Illusions as a solo pianist and with symphony orchestras in the U.S. and abroad. Lipinski’s doctoral dissertation research at Northwestern University explored the history of unusual piano recitals from Franz Liszt to Victor Borge.
