In celebration of Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens (PMG) hosts a special, all-ages workshop where participants decorate sugar skulls. The Day of the Dead is a significant holiday in Central and Southern Mexico that begins on the final day of October, where families honor their departed loved ones with an ofrenda (altar) and decorate sugar skulls. On October 27, guests receive exclusive access to the fully mosaicked basement, where they can participate in an hour-long workshop to learn about Day of the Dead and decorate sugar skulls to take home. The workshop sessions begin at 2 and 3:30 p.m. and are free with general admission.
During their visit, guests can also explore the indoor gallery’s latest exhibition “Walking Round My Head: Works by Stephen Wright,” and wander through the iconic outdoor sculpture garden, which features hundreds of Mexican folk art objects collected by PMG’s creator Isaiah Zagar.
There will be 2 sessions between 2:00 P.M. and 4:30 P.M. Prices vary by group. Please visit the Magic Garden web link for more information.
