Philadelphia Dance Day

One day. One city. Tons of free dance workshops!!! Philadelphia Dance Day is back and bigger than ever! In celebration of the third annual nonprofit festival, a group of local dance companies have teamed up to offer a Saturday packed with FREE workshops, live performances and a huge $5 evening dance party. The goal: to unite the community in celebrating dance as a powerful platform for creative expression and physical activity.All dance enthusiasts - regardless of experience or even coordination - are invited to take part in the fun on July 28, 2012. There will be something for everyone, from creative movement for preschoolers to hip-hop for all ages. Participants will tour studios around the city to sample as many free workshops as they like during the day, then come together in the evening for the main event ($5) at the historical Ethical Society Building on Rittenhouse Square. Festivities kick off there with Zumba, a global dance fitness program that combines easy-to-follow, calorie-burning moves with infectious international music. Those who'd prefer not to sweat so much can find a variety of partner dance lessons on the second floor. After that, the floor will open up for social dancing, with a variety of swing and Latin music to give participants a chance to practice moves they learned earlier in the day. Volunteer instructors and well-respected dance groups in the city will also put on a performance showcase.
