Pharaoh's Daughter
Pharaoh's Daughter, led by singer-musician Basya Schechter, fuses psychedelic and pan-Mediterranean influences in their music. Their repertoire features a blend of Hasidic chants, Mizrahi and Sephardi folk-rock, and spiritual elements, accompanied by percussion, flute, strings, and electronica. Schechter's global sound stems from her Hasidic music background and travels to the Middle East, African, Turkey, Kurdistan, and Greece. Having studied ethnomusicology extensively and collaborated with folk musicians worldwide, Schechter has honed the group's diverse style. They have performed in venues across America and Europe, including Central Park's Summer Stage series, Lincoln Center's Damrosch Park, and Queen Elizabeth Hall in London.
Co-presented by the Philip and Muriel Berman Center for Jewish Studies, in honor of its 40th anniversary.
