Penn State Master Gardeners Open Days Series Showcases Six Demonstration Gardens July 25th


Penn State Extension invites community members of all ages to explore the beauty and educational value of six demonstration gardens throughout Bucks County during the second offering of the Open Days Series, which are completely free to the public. Visitors will have the opportunity to tour vibrant gardens designed, planted, and maintained by Master Gardener volunteers while learning practical, research-based gardening techniques focused on sustainability, pollinator support, native plants, and home food production. Families will also be able to enjoy nature-themed activities and refreshments will be served. Each event will offer opportunities to connect directly with Master Gardeners and explore a variety of garden styles and educational themes. Visitors can enjoy: -Seasonal gardening demonstrations -Proven science-based advice -Family-friendly activities -Refreshments and giveaways “At our demonstration gardens, we showcase sustainable gardening practices using plants that thrive in Bucks County’s climate and soils with minimal maintenance,” said Ken Speers, Master Gardener and Open Day Committee Chair, “These gardens also demonstrate the important role plants play in supporting pollinators, managing stormwater, growing food, and creating welcoming community spaces.” Event Schedule Saturday, July 25, 2026 | 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM Quakertown Native Pollinator Garden at Fourth Street Park 301 W. Mill Street, Quakertown, PA 18951 “Be a bee” photo op will enthrall kids of all ages and the whole family can take part in a scavenger hunt. Plant identification and Pollinator search-a-word handouts will also be available. Refreshments will be served. Quakertown Educational Community Garden 670 S. Main Street, Quakertown, PA 18951 This raised-bed veggie garden supports a local food pantry and tests different growing methods to optimize food production. Central Park Native Demonstration Garden 425 Wells Road, Doylestown, PA 18901 The kid-friendly bird blind hidden in this garden offers visitors a peek into the world of birds drawn to the native plants, shrubs, and trees. Tyler State Park Native Garden 101 Swamp Road, Newtown, PA 18940 Take part in a seed-saving and winter-sowing workshop for your own native plants. Lower Makefield Township Native Plant Demonstration Garden 1100 Edgewood Road, Yardley, PA 19067 A Bug snug habitat in a pocket park demonstrates how to plant this, not that. Adams Hollow Community Garden 591 Jefferson Ave, Bristol, PA 19007 See how this vibrant teaching garden grows 100s of lbs of veggies to donate to a community food bank every year.
