Penn State Extension Master Gardeners Final Demonstration Garden Open Day September 12

Penn State Extension will host its last Open Day of demonstration gardens at the Middletown Grange in Newtown. Visitors will be able to tour two of the newer demonstration gardens, the Sensory Garden and the Pollinator and Herb Garden, which were designed, planted, and maintained by Master Gardener volunteers. The Sensory Garden was designed to show visitors how gardens can be places to stimulate all five senses–touch, smell, sound, and taste–and not just sight alone and was recently announced as a Finalist for the David Gibby Search for Excellence Award. Come and enjoy the 200 different plants and artwork that were installed with your five senses in mind. With cozy spots to stop and reflect and abundant signage, we hope you come away being inspired and enlightened. The Pollinator and Herb Garden consists of six raised beds that showcase native plants, plants that support our diverse pollinators and over 20 kinds of herbs. Have a seat on our inviting benches and enjoy the whimsical artwork, such as the trellis made from repurposed door frames. Master Gardeners will be on hand to lead tours and answer all your questions. “At our demonstration gardens, we showcase sustainable gardening practices using plants that thrive in Bucks County’s climate and soils with minimal maintenance,” said Ken Speers, Master Gardener and Open Day Committee Chair, “These gardens also demonstrate the important role plants play in supporting pollinators, managing stormwater, growing food, and creating welcoming community spaces.” Final Open Day Event Saturday, September 12, 2026 | 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM 576 Penns Park Rd, Newtown, PA 18940 Sensory Garden at the Middletown Grange Activities include a Sensory Scavenger Hunt, Monarch Butterfly photo station and a native plant seed giveaway, while supplies last.
