The pelvic floor is a group of muscles that are important in core stability, bladder and bowel function, and sexual health. This presentation gives an overview of the pelvic floor muscles, why they are important, what can happen when they are not working correctly - conditions such as urinary incontinence, prolapse, and pelvic pain. We will discuss and practice what we can do to strengthen and increase our awareness of them. Additionally, we will review how some cancer treatments and/or surgeries for both men (prostate cancer) and women can adversely affect the pelvic floor what we can do to minimize this. Time will be given for questions after the prevention.
Educational lectures such as these empower people affected by cancer to make informed decisions about their healthcare.
