Passion Sunday Concert

Marking the beginning of Passiontide, this Lenten concert will feature some of the most famous Baroque music of the season, including the incomparable “Stabat Mater” by Italian composer Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, and works of Danish composer Dieterich Buxtehude, and German composer Heinrich Schütz.

With orchestra members of Minnesota’s Lyra Baroque, and soloists Sarah Brailey and Elizabeth Pearse, the focus of the music will be on the bond which unites Mary, and all of us, to the Passion of Christ. Admission is free and open to all.

Heinrich Schütz - Bone Jesu, verbum Patris
Composed in 1638, the text is from the Meditations of St. Augustine.

Dieterich Buxtehude - Membra Jesu Nostri
Composed in 1680, Movement VI: The wounding of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Giovanni Battista Pergolesi - Stabat Mater
Composed in 1736, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater describes the Suffering of her Son upon the Cross. The piece is one of the most famous musical settings in praise of the Virgin Mary.
