The Stabat Mater is a 10-movement piece scored for soloists, orchestra and chorus. Antonin Dvorak's most often performed choral work highlights the Passion story. This solemn and beautiful meditation on the Crucifixion invites the audience on a musical journey from grief to spiritual healing, concluding with hope.
Dvorak is heralded for this ability to convey profound emotion using lyrics and instrumentation adapted to each movement of the piece, balancing instrumental depth with lyrical emotion. The Stabat Mater text has inspired many composers, from medieval times to the present day.
Professional soloists Todd Donovan (bass), Robyn Rocklein (alto), Susan Spatafora (soprano) and John Kaneklides (tenor) will be featured, along with professional orchestra. Music Director Nancy Callahan will conduct the performance.
The Tampa Oratorio Singers is a 60-voice concert chorus comprised of talented singers from all walks of life. The mission of the chorus is to uplift, inspire and enrich the Tampa Bay community through the power of enduring choral classics, performed with artistic excellence. The current concert season is sponsored, in part, with support from The Hillsborough County Arts Council.
Tickets are $20 general admission; $15 for senior citizens and may be purchased on line or at the door. Visit tostampa.org for more information on the full concert season.
