Painting Freedom: A Juneteenth Celebration at TaDa! Memphis
This Juneteenth, TaDa! Memphis invites Memphians to celebrate freedom, creativity, and community through a special painting experience inspired by the enduring spirit of the holiday.
Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when enslaved African Americans in Texas finally learned they were free. More than a historical milestone, it is a celebration of resilience, hope, culture, and the ongoing pursuit of freedom.
At TaDa!, participants will explore these themes through art, creating paintings inspired by heritage, possibility, and personal expression. The event welcomes all skill levels and emphasizes connection over perfection.
"Art has a way of bringing people together. It helps us reflect, share stories, and see one another more fully.” says co-founder Tammy Groves. "Juneteenth is an opportunity to honor history while celebrating the creativity and strength that continue to shape our communities,” says co-founder Darlene Newman.
In a city where culture and storytelling are woven into its identity, the Juneteenth Painting Experience offers a meaningful way to gather, create, and reflect. Participants will leave with more than a finished painting—they'll leave having shared in a collective experience rooted in remembrance, celebration, and hope.
