Set on the French Polynesian island of Tahiti, in Pacifiction we follow a slippery fellow named De Roller (Benoît Magimel of The Piano Teacher and Bruno Dumont’s France) who over the years has taught himself to ably navigate both the French political system as well as the underbelly of the local indigenous population. Director Albert Serra (The Death of Louis XIV, Liberté) creates a slow-burn film of increasing paranoia, conspiracy, and threat, and starting at about the hour mark we are treated to a handful of stunning cinematic set pieces. Not to be missed on the big screen.
In French, English, Polynesian, and Portuguese, with English subtitles.
