About the Out-of-Door Academy – Out-of-Door is an independent day school in Sarasota, educating students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. In 1924, Fanneal Harrison and Catherine Gavin founded a school with the vision to establish a uniquely progressive school committed to high academic standards and to nourishing the minds, bodies, and spirits of children. They envisioned a school where some of the most important lessons would be learned “out-of-door” or outside the classroom. It is the second oldest private school in Florida. Although the school has evolved continually over the last 99 years, it has honored the vision of its remarkable founders. Today, the Academy serves more than 830+ students on its two campuses. One in Lakewood Ranch and on Siesta Key. The Academy will open a third campus in Sarasota in August.
