Opening Reception | Selected works by Fernando Alvarez
Fernando Alvarez presents two works: 23.12.04, and Wash My Hands Clean. Both works represent the artist’s ongoing relationship with political violence. As a teenager in his natal Honduras, Alvarez experienced personal political motivated crime and trauma. These works explores the artist engagement with acts of rememberance, grief, and guilt.
Fernando Alvarez's concept driven work uses his displacement from Honduras to discuss broader themes like paranoia, culture, and class; often using a humorous or flippant attitude at his own expense. Through an interdisciplinary practice, Fernando examines the eccentricities of his background in order to better understand himself and the subcultures he navigates.Alvarez received his BFA at UNT in 2014, and his MFA from TCU in 2022. Currently, he works at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth as an Assistant Curator of Education.
