Cynthia KUKLA | Not Afraid of Beauty
Kukla’s work presents an ironic paradox—we immediately recognize the past in revered ruins while present beauty eludes us. Kukla’s work explores this paradox on a ground of iconic imagery overlain with contemporary motifs, colors and techniques. Her scenes thus appear to be paintings of time in motion rather than merely past or present; and they are intentionally beautiful.
Joeliene MAGOTO | Renascent
Magoto's work considers botanical based circumstances that describe life fulfilled—incremental changes of growth/decline, dormancy/renewal, and the grand sweep of seasonal cycles. The title Renascent relates not only to her painted motifs, but also to her recent return to galleries after years of quietly maintaining her fine art practice alongside a career in development for arts organizations and museums.
