October Historic House Tours
From Sept 26 - Nov 3, tours at The Armour-Stiner Octagon House, transform into a more spirited affair! Join us for our Myths & Mysteries of The Octagon House or “Tis the Wind and Nothing More” tours this fall.
10 am, 11:30 am, 1 pm, & 2:30 pm - Myths & Mysteries of The Octagon House: Journey back through the history of The Octagon House to unravel the myths that have developed around the mysterious and unexplained events of the past. Learn about the unusual lives of the residents who walked these halls, its architectural connections to 19th-century spiritualism, and more.
4 pm and 6 pm - “Tis the Wind and Nothing More”: An Immersive Octagon House Tour with Reading of 'The Raven'. Step back in time over 100 years and tour The Octagon House with one of its most mysterious residents as your guide. The enigmatic Jessie Clarke lived in this house for nearly 25 years before her death in 1933, and we know little about that period aside from the fact that her "mental condition" required her money to be held in trust by relatives.
PLEASE NOTE: this is NOT a “Haunted House” tour, but an evocation of the many other-worldly myths & mysteries that have followed The Armour-Stiner Octagon House for decades.
The Octagon House is a privately owned home and active residence, in Irvington, NY (between New York City and Sleepy Hollow). Tours include three flights of stairs, and are therefore not suitable for wheelchair users, those with limited mobility, or those who struggle to stand for extended periods of time. Due to the frequent discussion of illness, disaster, and death in the 19th century, this tour is recommended for ages 12 and older.
