Night Rose: Ronn McFarlane, Lute with Andrew McEvoy, Guitar


Join us for an intimate, stage-seated concert with two virtuosos and masters of their instruments on Sunday, September 22nd at 7:00PM in the Singleton Center for the Performing Arts. Featuring original music by Ronn McFarlane, including “Night Rose,” paired with wonders from the ancient world “Some of the most ravishing lute playing to be heard anywhere.” -The Washington Times GRAMMY-nominated artist Ronn McFarlane brings the lute – the most popular instrument of the Renaissance – into today’s musical mainstream, making it accessible to a wider audience. Since taking up the lute in 1978, Ronn has made his mark in music as the founder of Ayreheart, a founding member of the Baltimore Consort, touring 49 of the 50 United States, Canada, England, Scotland, Netherlands, Germany and Austria, and as a guest artist with Apollo’s Fire, The Bach Sinfonia, The Catacoustic Consort, The Folger Consort, Houston Grand Opera, The Oregon Symphony, The Portland Baroque Orchestra, and The Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra. “a delightful surprise,” “…played with all the verve and skill of the master himself.” – -Praise for Andrew McEvoy’s Parlor Tricks, Classical Guitar Magazine Andrew McEvoy is a laureate guitarist of Richmond Virginia. Trained in the manner of ancient masters but living in the modern world, Andrew’s work tests the boundaries of time itself. A VCUarts graduate, McEvoy has given more than a thousand live performances over 20+ years as a working player, performing acts of fretboard wizardry for many types of audiences and across multiple genres. A former child prodigy, McEvoy performed on NPR’s From The Top, soloed with the Richmond Symphony, and was featured in concert at the Getty Museum before graduating from high school. More recently he/they performed at George Washington’s Mount Vernon, the Smithsonian, Museum of the Americas, the Richmond Forum, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, VCU Guitar Series, Wintergreen Music Festival, and as a guest artist with the Richmond Symphony. McEvoy’s work is guided by the ability of music to grow communities and inspire humanity’s best instincts. Their public service includes 12 years teaching in the university system; and the fostering of Classical Revolution RVA from a grassroots movement in 2013 to a 501c3 arts non-profit which continues its musical outreach into the present day. He/They continue to independently serve the Richmond metro area by running RVA Classical Guitarists, which offers free public workshops, fellowship and other resources to classical guitarists and their friends.
