About Makahiki Season: As the sun sets over the Ko’olau Mountains, eyes turn towards the starry skies for the first sight of Makaliʻi (The Pleiades Constellation). This annual marvel of celestial wonder marks the beginning a new year in the Hawaiian calendar, filled with hope and peace, and is fondly called Makahiki. The celebratory season of rest and rejuvenation begins in November and is honored through early February with the intention to gather for the harvest and enjoy mele, storytelling, arts and play.
