Award-winning New York saxophonist Daniel Bennett plays a special collaborative concert with jazz photographer Ken Franckling at North Port Library (13800 Tamiami Trail, North Port, FL) on February 24 at 2pm. This multimedia concert will spotlight the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s and how the movement shaped jazz through innovations that remain the essence of this American artform. The program will highlight the history and future of jazz through spoken word, photography and music. The Boston Globe described Bennett's music as, "a mix of Jazz, Folk and Minimalism." Daniel Bennett is joined by master percussionist Koko Bermejo (drums/keyboard) and acclaimed bassist Kevin Hailey. Daniel Bennett has been featured in Timeout New York, Baltimore Sun, Miami Herald, Boston Globe, and NPR. Daniel Bennett Group was recently voted 'Best New Jazz' in NYC Hot House Magazine. Daniel Bennett is a touring woodwind clinician and associate director of the New York Jazz Academy in Times Square. Daniel Bennett played woodwinds in 'Blank! The Musical,' the first fully improvised musical to launch on a national stage. The New York Times called the show, "Witty, Likable and Ludicrous!" Ken Franckling is an ASCAP Deems Taylor Award winner for music journalism excellence and two-time winner of the Jazz Journalists Association's Photographer of the Year award. Ken Franckling has photographed 41 consecutive Newport Jazz Festivals for a variety of publications. His fine-art book, Jazz in the Key of Light, is on sale worldwide.
